So I keep tabs on the other (yes, their is a good Orta sized regiment of Ottoman Podcasters out there) Ottoman History pods and like to see how their doing (you know, share their stuff and otherwise support a fellow podcaster).
It's sad to see, every so often, a few drop off the radar. Especially if they had something good going. I was subscribed to Rosa Hayes' show on the Ottomans for a good bit (for some reason Rosa, if you're reading this, my review never posted I have zero idea why Apple does this) when going through the yearly purge of podcast shows on my iPhone I noticed the above.
Zilch.
The Sad Empty Castle that once was Rosa Haye's Apple Podcast
Looks like Rosa shut the doors permanently. Rosa used to have a website but I've noticed the domain for it is up for sale on the slightly creepy sounding GoDaddy.com
No email for Rosa. No social media followup. I'd be curious about what happened. But, since being in this podcasting game (and name having launched 2 other spin off pods which were utter failures) I can kinda see why someone would get discouraged.
Rosa if you happen across this I'd love to hear from you: Empiresofhistorypodcast@gmail.com
Listeners... it's tough out there for us pods. At times it seems like you're screaming into a vast void totally indifferent to the hours and hours of labor goes into these passion projects.
On that note, podcasting seems like something more of a "passion" project. It occupies a grey area of hobby, side gig, and hopeful full-time job. It's weird.
It's cranky.
And damnit it can be disheartening.
I thought once my downloads reached 50 an episode it'd feel like "it was worth all these mornings getting up at 5:00Am.
Then I hit 100
Then over 1000 per episode.
But guess what fam... it still feels like you're screaming into the void.
Emails from listeners are what keep us podcasters going.
Please don't stop.
