- Books are fun.
- Books are cool.
- Magical even.
🧐And they can be weird as all hell.
If you've ever just sat and read a book they're great, even though authors on Amazon can tell how many pages you read of their E-book that's kinda creepy and anxiety inducing (I imagine for both author and reader). However, throw up a YouTube channel, blog, or start a podcast and one where you need the content in books... and well you're in a whole other ballgame.
You should consider buying "Memoirs" and add it to your Ottoman History Library

You see someone else actually own the rights to the content within. Now, with a book like "Memoirs" sure, the manuscript by the author is surely in the public domain. However, publishers often have historians taking these works and translating them, editing them, giving context to them etc... this means that when a book deal is signed, even if the work is based on an old historical work from hundreds of years ago, theirs some poor sap who actually owns the rights to that particular version.
And in my case that's the book I'm holding in my hands, "Memoirs"
I planned to use the book to quote large excerpts in blog posts and in the EXTRA episodes, however, I'm ever mindful of the copyright stuff and I certainly don't want to run afoul (especially with the dire warnings in the books pages to not under any circumstance, End of World notwithstanding) reproduce anything in any format known to man.
So, last night I shot the Editor (or whoever answers their emails) a message explaining who I am, what I do, and asked permission to work it into the podcast. Depending on how they answer will dictate how "Memoirs" get's used in the show.
Markus Wiener Publishers have a lot of cool books go check them out: Markus Wiener Publishers Website
Special Note: "Memoirs" was purchased for me by a generous listener to the show. He OR she wishes their identity kept confidential.
I'll keep you all updated on the status of "Memoirs" my rough plan is giving the publishing house 30 days to respond. If they don't then I'll treat like I do all my other history books used on the show, namely, if a work really impacts an episode, if I draw from them I'll give a link and citation in the main episode.
Here's to "Memoirs" leading the charge!
